- PTA Meetings - We would like to welcome any new parents/carers to come along to our friendly meetings held once/twice a term. We are only a small team of parents that would welcome any new ideas to go towards raising more funds. We discuss ways of raising funds for your child's school, or it may be helping at events held by school. Recently we raised £192 by helping out with the School's Christmas Concert, which has provided a MacBook for the ICT, Art and English Departments to use. If anyone would like further information or to join us please contact Wendy Taylor (Vice Chair) on (0115) 938 7000 (email: w.taylor@kimberleyschool.co.uk) or pop along to one of our meetings!
Meetings are held at 7pm in the Nelson Railway. Upcoming meeting dates are:
Wednesday 8th February, Thursday 15th March, Wednesday 18th April and the next big annual meeting is scheduled for Thursday 10th January 2013.
DECEMBER 2011
- Last Day of Term Arrangements - The school will close at the end of Period 3 (12:20pm) on the last day of this term, Tuesday 20th December 2011. Buses have been arranged to pick up those students who would normally travel home by bus. A lunchtime service will be provided by the catering staff for those students who wish to remain on site for lunch. However, the school is unable to provide supervision arrangements for students after this time.
- Change to Inset day arrangements - I write to inform you that Wednesday 4 January will now be an Inset day during which school staff will be considering how best to address the key issues set out in the recent Ofsted report. The first day of term for students will now be Thursday 5 January. This Inset day replaces the one scheduled for Thursday 28 June, which will now be a normal school day.
NOVEMBER 2011
- Ofted Inspection Feedback- Our Ofsted inspection is now over and I believe parents will recognise the school through the comments in the report. I want to say a big thank you to all parents, students and staff who completed questionnaires. The lead inspector was impressed by the quantity of responses! To see the current Ofsted Report click here, or visit the Ofsted website: www.ofsted.gov.uk. .
Parent Governor Vacancy - A position has arisen at The Kimberley School for a Parent Governor. A nomination for Parent Governors letter and form is being sent out by pupil post on 23rd November. If have not received these documents, please click here.
OCTOBER 2011
- Monday 31st October and Tuesday 1st November are Inset Days.
- Hovis Non-Uniform Day:
The Kimberley School is very grateful to Hovis’ Nottingham Bakery for their continued support and generosity over the school years. The bakery has allowed students to visit their site for a very fun and educational school trip as well as donating bread on many occasions. To show our appreciation the school has been fundraising for Hovis’ dedicated charity “When You Wish Upon A Star”, with pupils baking with donated dough from Hovis. The wonderful cakes, buns and pizzas made were then sold, and along with the non-uniform day, the school has managed to raise a scrumptious £1177.69 for the charity.
SEPTEMBER 2011

- Tuesday 6 September - arrival times for students at school:

AUGUST 2011
- Our best results yet at both A level and GCSE!
Congratulations to all our Y13 and Y11 students. Your hard work has been repaid with some excellent individual results. At GCSE, 60% of students achieved five or more higher grades including English and maths with 85% achieving five or more overall. 19% of all entries were graded A or A*. To achieve these figures, pass rates across the board were high. For example, in maths, 73% of students achieved a C or higher.
At A level, results were, on average, a whole grade higher than last year. Despite the national difficulty in finding university places, it is satisfying that 98% of our students who applied were successful.

APRIL 2011
- Kimberley Student Council Update
1. The Council is still pressing for the Main School changing rooms to be refurbished. The money raised last year has helped to refurbish the toilets in both changing rooms. Plans are being drawn up for a new floor and benching layout. Alex Cargill (School Council member and Clough KS3 House Captain) met with the school's governing body who told him the work in the Main School changing rooms will hopefully be completed over the summer holiday break. The Council would like to take this opportunity to thank Cllr Ken Rigby who has donated a further £500 towards the project.
2. Members of the Council met with Cllr Philip Owen during his visit to the school. The council members pressed the councillor on important issues, such as Student EMA money funding cuts, Schools for the Future programme being scrapped, the increase in the price of food and consumer goods and should pupils and members of the Kimberley community be worried by police force budget cuts. We would like to thank Cllr Owen for taking his time to visit our school and answering our questions.
- Comic Relief
The sun shone on Kimberley Sixth Form’s efforts to support the Comic Relief charity. Students paid £1 for the privilege of coming to school in non-uniform, while Sixth Formers and many staff took the opportunity to sport fancy dress. There were some memorable sights including one teacher’s newly bald head! Charley Clarke, Year 13, dressed as an Oompa Loompa beat off stiff opposition to claim the fancy dress first prize. There were fun events all around the school. Students enjoyed the chance to throw wet sponges at some of their teachers and to beat the goalie. Other traditional stalls such as ‘Pin The Red Nose on the Donkey,’ ‘Beat the Buzz’ and ‘Guess the Name of the Bear,’ which
was kindly donated by IKEA, were all busy, while the cake stall, unsurprisingly proved to be a real money spinner. Most importantly £2205.37 has been raised for the charity.

The Kimberley School welcomes four visitors from South India
Brother Shantha Paul, the Principal of St Francis ICSE School, Chamarajanagar, accompanied his three teaching colleagues, Mrs Chitra Govindaraju, Mrs Roopa Nagendra and Mrs Geetha Jagadeesh. Our guests spent much time in school, observing lessons and interacting with students and staff, giving assemblies and advancing specific curriculum projects and school initiatives which are aimed at enriching the education of students in both schools. At Awsworth, they saw a superb array of performances by the whole school in a special assembly. They visited many sights in Nottingham, Lincoln and London, and Eastwood’s D H Lawrence museum, were welcomed at County Hall and took part in a pub quiz.
- Physio Room Donation
A donation of £500 was given by Denis Copeland, on behalf of the Giltbrook Retail Park, to refurbish the Physio Room in Lower School. It got a grand re-opening with Denis Copeland, his colleague and some of our staff and students. The Physio Room now has a new lease of life: new colour, new equipment and new furniture. This was organised by Mrs Layton and Mrs Ball
JANUARY 2011
-
The Kimberley School will be closed for INSET Days on the 27th and 28th January 2011
-
The date of the public holiday, Friday 29 April 2011 marking the royal wedding, falls within the previously-announced Easter school holidays. However, in order to ensure that school-based colleagues are not disadvantaged, the Department for Education (DFE) is arranging for schools in England to lawfully take the day off in lieu. Nottinghamshire community and voluntary controlled schools will therefore now close for an additional day on Tuesday 3 May 2011. For a copy of the revised holiday/term dates please click here.

- Christmas Concert: It is with regret I have to inform you that this years Christmas Concert - postponed because of bad weather - will now have to be cancelled. I have made the decision after discussions with the staff involved, Senior Staff and technicians concerning the absence of Mr. Warrender. As I am sure you are aware Mr. Warrender has a position of great importance in the production and organisation of any concerts here in school. Without him I do not feel the performance would match the quality you have seen and been so complimentary about in the past.
From Wednesday 12th January I shall refund ticket money using the slips handed in for their purchase. Many thanks for the support you have given to your son/daughter in practice and rehearsals.
- PTA Meeting: The PTA meeting which was scheduled for the 8th March will now be held on the 9th, (7pm in the Nelson Railway) due to it clashing with Year 8 Parents Evening.
