Refurbishment of Toilets

Current Facilities

We have to accept that some of the facilities around Kimberley School are less than desirable. One area of school was identified as being particularly poor. Click on the image to find out where

Ideas for new toilets were discussed with the Student Council. A number of student reps went to visit Top Valley School to see a new way forward for toilet design.

A New Approach

Many schools, including Top Valley, have seen success with innovative designs, which include concepts that offer 'open plan' and 'unisex' solutions. One other such school is Long Eaton School that has received an award for the quality of its toilet facilities. Their radical new design has proven to be a success.

Future Considerations

Mr Teal recently attended a meeting to discuss the future development of the school under the 'Building Schools for the Future' programme. Mr Teal was told that the school would enter the phase due to start in 2011.

This will mean that the school will see major redevelopment, and we must even consider the possiblity of the demolition of our Lower School building.

With this in mind, and as with many developments, the Headteacher and Governors must consider the best use of school funds.

The New Way Forward

Mr Teal and the Governors have recently received costs for the refurbishment of toilets in our Lower School building.

However, at a recent meeting, it was decided that it would not be prudent to incur such a large expense (in excess of £81,000) for a building that may well be demolished in less than 5 years time.

It was decided that the toilets will receive a general makeover, but not as originally planned.

The original designs drawn up for new toilets will be used to inform discussion about future developments of the school.
