You are warmly invited to The Kimberley School Open Evening on
Wednesday 21st September 2011 from 5.00pm to 7.30pm.

Due to the large number of people who attend our Open Evenings, we have scheduled three presentations and a number of tours of the school during which you will be able to observe and join in with a number of learning activities. Over the page you will find the schedule and timings of events for the evening.

We are proud of our school and invite you to attend the Open Evening to learn more about what we can offer you and your child.

Programme of Events

5.00pm: Presentation in the Hall for parents/carers of Year 5 children & Tours of the school for parents/carers of Year 6 children

5.40pm: Presentation in the Hall for parents/carers of Year 6 children from:

• Horsendale Primary
• Mornington Primary
• Larkfields Junior
• Hempshill Hall Primary
• City primary schools

Tours of the school start for parents/carers of children in Year 5 and continue for parents/carers of Year 6 children from other primary schools

6.15pm: Presentation in the Hall for parents/carers of Year 6 children from:

• Kimberley Primary
• Hollywell Primary
• Awsworth Primary
• Gilthill Primary
• County primary schools

Tours of the school continue for all other parents/carers

Demonstration lessons and activities on show during the tour include:

English	Join in with Year 8 as they undertake a news simulation and solve the clues in a Murder Mystery.	20/21
Maths	Mymaths, an independent maths support package will be demonstrated. Mystical Maths: join in an interactive and magical maths session.	C2 30/31
Science	Try testing your own pulse rate in Biology, learn how to dismantle a human body and play at guess the object under the microscope! Explore combustion in Chemistry	S4 S5/6
Art	KS3 and 4 students will be working on observational drawings	A1
Drama	Dark Wood Manor: Students will be performing pieces of drama based on this Year 7 project	D1
Music	Students will be showcasing the Year 7 curriculum and performing music.	M1
DT	Take part in bread making in Food Technology. Create a book mark in Textiles. Make a windmill in Design Technology.	T11 T4 T8
Humanities	Take a Humanities journey through The Kimberley School	H1
ICT	E-Safety will be demonstrated in a hands on session and you will also have the opportunity to take part in activities focused on the Year 7 ICT Curriculum.	C3
Modern Languages	Hunt the classrooms for treasure, sing along and learn about colours with a chameleon, take a photo tour to Paris, Berlin and Madrid!	L6
PE	Join in sports such as table tennis, curling or boccia and peruse the Kimberley Sporting Wall of Fame.	Gym
SEN	SEN staff will be available to talk to you about how we provide for, and support, students with special needs, including gifted and talented students. You will also be able to take a look at a range of materials we use to support children with lower literacy levels.	AC2
School Meals	Sample a range of food that is prepared by our school cooks.	Canteen
Student Centre	Talk with students and staff about alternative education courses and community links. Also, take some time to stroll around our newly created allotment area which is used by students as part of their Diploma course	Allotment
Learning Resources Centre	Explore the world of fact and fiction on a treasure trail though the LRC	LRC
