1. c1250-c1500: Medicine in the Middle Ages and the Arab world. Brief overview of the period: medieval England. Continuity in ideas with the ancient world.2. c1500-c1700: The Medical Renaissance in England3. c1700-c1900: Medicine in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Britain including case studies4. c1900�present: Medicine in modern Britain including case studies Assessments: Each period of medicine has a GSCE exam question/s at the end of the topic. The final one has a summative assessment which assesses the learning of the whole Medicine module. See Assessment policy for further detail.

Module 1;Thematic study: Medicine in Britain c.1250 to present (12 Weeks)

Module 2; Historic Environment.

The British sector of the Western Front, 1914-18: surgery and treatment (6 weeks). Assessment: Historic environment assessment which matches exam style questions for that unit. See Assessment policy.

Module 3: British depth study.

Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, c1060-88(6 weeks). Assessment: British depth study assessment matches exam style questions for that unit. See Assessment policy.

Module 4: Period study: The American West, c1835-c1895(6 weeks).

Extra Support

    There are often documentaries on television relating to Nazi Germany, please encourage your child to watch these. Failing that, on YouTube students can watch a series called Hitler the rise of evil. This is an excellent account of how Hitler was able to take power and fits directly in line with the curriculum students cover.Also on YouTube there are some excellent clips from BBC bitesize in relation to the medicine topic. Promote factual reading on topics surrounding Hitler and the Nazis.
    Controlled Assessment catch up Friday after school in C3 (during controlled assessment period). Enrichment sessions to stretch and challenge during autumn in Year 11. After school revision during Spring/Summer Year 11.

Module 2; Historic Environment.

1. Was Weimar doomed from the start? How far did Weimar overcome its problems in the early years? How far did life improve during the golden years? 2. How was Hitler able to come to power?What impact did the Great Depression have on Germany? Who supported the Nazis? Assessments: Each period of Weimar Germany has a GSCE exam question/s at the end of the topic. Module 5 continues (12 weeks) 3. How effectively did the Nazis control Germany?How effectively was terror used to control people? Who opposed Hitler and why?4. What was it like to live in Nazi Germany? What role did women and the youth play in Nazi Germany? To what extent did Hitler achieve his social aims.Assessments: each period of Nazi Germany has a GSCE exam question/s at the end of the topic.     Commit to Succeed (after school revision sessions) on Tues Week A during October to Christmas half term in H3, H4, H5 (dependant on
    the teacher). Ask your class teacher for clarification. Documentaries/Clips on YouTube and sometimes TV. Parental support: Regular factual recall tests on content already covered. During Year 11, tests and revision on the Germany topic would be very helpful in order to refresh student understanding of the content. Also encourage students to complete additional booklets or past paper questions provided by their class teacher.
