- Revision techniques in testing vocabulary.
- Completion of theory exercises / worksheets related to Music fundamentals and keywords / terminology.Comprehension questions based on Haydn's Symphony Questions on Pop music analysis. Revision of musical terms and devices.
Term 1: Music theory / general fundamentals. Listening of instrumentation, musical devices, aural perception. Haydn analysis Term 2 - Pop music analysis. Continued Listening and Aural Perception skills. Term 3 - Listening skills and terminology tested in preparation for Yr10 (informal) exam.
Unit 1 - Understanding Music
Unit 2 - Performing (September - June / July).
Informal recording June/ July).
- Continuous practice of a solo and ensemble piece for end of year recording. Formal recording is in Sept / Oct of Year 11.
- Ensure a practise schedule is followed as both pieces are only allowed to be recorded in Year 11.
Unit 3 - Composing.
Term 2 - Pop music analysis for compositional techniques.Learn and apply knowledge of Sibelius for the Free Composition.Terms 2 & 3: continued application of music devices and composition techniques to be complete by end of September (in Yr 11)
- Analyse a song of choice focusing on the Musical elements. Listen to other pieces of music for ideas that can be brought to the lesson and applied to your own composition.
- Encourage listening to a wide variety of music and suggesting ideas that could be developed.

Unit 1 Understanding Music.
September - May Continued Listening practise, using past papers, aural perception, terminology recall exercises.
- Recap of worksheets, theory, vocab tests, comprehension questions for the 2 set works (Haydn & The Beatles).
- Revision techniques in testing vocabulary.
Unit 2 - Performing (September - June / July).
Solo performance before Oct Half TermEnsemble performance - before February Half Term.
- Daily practise in the lead up to a recording date (to be agreed with the teacher) for each performance. Further practise if performances are in need of improvement.
- Ensure a practise schedule is followed as both pieces are only allowed to be recorded in Year 11.
Unit 3 - Composing.
Term 1 - Begin Composition 2 (to a brief) - to be complete by April / Easter.
- September-Easter: after school sessions to bring compositions closer to completion.
- Encourage listening to a wide variety of music and suggesting ideas that could be developed.
