January 2021 - School Closure

Updated 25th January

Who can attend school in the week beginning 5th January?

  • Students who meet the governments' definition of being a "vulnerable" student can attend school.  If this applies to your child then you will have received a letter from school.  Parents must not send their child into school unless you have received this letter

  • If your job is critical to the country's covid-19 response then you should read this guidance to understand if your child is eligible to attend school.   Parents should note that the guidance is clear that critical workers should keep their children at home if they can and should read this letter before contacting school. If your job falls within the critical worker category and you cannot keep your child at home then in order to arrange for your child to attend school you should contact the school reception on 0115 9387000 and ask to speak to Assistant Head Teachers Mr Knapczyk or Mr Wharmby.   Parents must not send their children in without agreement from these two staff.  School is closed to all students (including vulnerable and children of critical workers) for the February Half Term holiday which is week beginning 15th February

Will school be different for students when they are in school?

  • School transport will run as normal

  • Students will follow their normal school timetable

  • Students will be expected to wear their uniform

  • The canteen will still be open at break and lunch

  • The timings of the school day will still be the same

  • The Covid Control Measures will remain in place and students will still be expected to comply with all of these.  In addition students will be expected to wear face coverings in lessons and will be seated 1m+ apart from each in lessons.

  • Vocational exams planned for the week beginning 4th January will still take place

When will all students return to school?

  • At this stage we do not know.  The earliest possible return is Monday 22nd February

What remote curriculum provision and support will be in place for students who are at home?

  • The full remote curriculum for all year groups will start on the 5th January

  • The full details of the remote curriculum are published on our website.

  • If students do not have access to a laptop/computer or the internet then parents and carers should contact the Student Support Team who may be able to arrange for equipment to be loaned

  • School can apply to some mobile phone providers to increase data allowances for students.  The information on this scheme is here.   If this would help your child have access to the remote curriculum resources then you can complete this form and we will make the request on your behalf.

Will the school be offering Lateral Flow Tests to students and staff?

I have a question.  Who can I contact at the school?
